Application of Titus

  1. The world’s lifestyle denies God. By your lifestyle and attitudes, do you deny ungodliness and worldly desires, or do you indulge the desires of your flesh?

  2. It’s difficult always to be considerate to everyone, isn’t it? When did you last fail in this area? Have you determined afresh to be gentle and uncontentious even in the most difficult situation with the most difficult person? Your actions often will speak louder then your words ever can.

  3. Your salvation was not based on performance but upon the mercy and grace of God. What has your heavenly Father saved you from? Think on His goodness that brought you from death into life and brought you out of the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of His glorious light. Have you thanked Him lately for His mercy and grace? Why not do it now? Pray for those close to you who have yet to experience the saving grace of God.

A Good Life

The Good News of salvation is the we can’t be saved by living a good life; we are saved only by faith in Jesus Christ. But the gospel transforms people’s lives, so that they eventually perform good deeds. Our service won’t save us, but we are saved to serve.

A good life is a witness to the gospel’s power. As Christians, we must have commitment and discipline to serve. Are you putting your faith into action by serving others?

Character

Titus’s responsibility in Crete was to appoint elders to maintain proper organization and discipline, so Paul listed the qualities needed for the eldership. Their conduct in their homes revealed their fitness for service in the church.

It’s not enough to be educated or to have a loyal following to be Christ’s kind of leader. You must have self-control, spiritual and moral fitness, and Christian character. Who you are is just as important as what you can do.

Church

Relationships

Church teaching must relate to various groups. Older Christians were to teach and to be examples to younger men and woman. People of every age and group have a lesson to learn and a role to play.

Right living and right relationship go along with right doctrine. Treat relationships with other believers as an outgrowth of your faith.

Citizenship

Christians must be good citizen in society, not just in church. Believers must obey the government and work honestly.

How you fulfill your civic duties as a witness to the watching world. Your community life should reflect Christ's love as much as your church life does.
